The 2012 Catch Up

As promised, here’s my 2012 catch up. I have procrastinated over the last fortnight about what to include in my catch up but I need to finish 2012 so I can move on to 2013.  It’s sad that I didn’t have enough time to blog these events individually throughout 2012 and give them their own posts but I have learnt from this and won’t let it happen again :)

The Summit August 2012

More Than A Mum

In August a group of mums headed of to The Summit for one of their “More Than A Mum” weekends.  I have never laughed and cried so much in one weekend!  A whole weekend of letting go, trusting others, letting others in and importantly for me, believing in yourself. Here are a few happy snaps from the weekend.

Yup, I climbed to the top of that :)

We had such a fantastic weekend that we’re heading back there this year!

Footloose Flash Mob by Panorama Theatre Company

This year, Zac will be playing the part of Bickle in Panorama Theatre Company’s production of “Footloose”.  As always, we have taken him to rehearsal after rehearsal, so when we were told they would be performing a sneak preview at the Mayor’s Picnic today, I couldn’t wait. But, this is a theatre company, so this was no ordinary sneak peek.

To promote “Footloose”, the cast flash mobbed the Mayor’s Picnic at the George Pentland Botanic Gardens and it was awesome.  I just wish I had been able to get into a better position early so I didn’t end up with shaky video at the start :(

Since I’m such a good sharer, here is the Panorama Theatre Company’s "Footloose” Flash Mob video

And, just a few more happy snaps of the day including the cast photo.

If you would like to see Panorama Theatre Company’s production of “Footloose”, tickets are available from the Frankston Arts Centre website. Hope to see you there :)

Performances dates:

Friday 5th October 7:30pm
Saturday 6th October 7:30pm
Sunday 7th October 1:30pm
Friday 12th October 7:30pm

ANZAC Day 25th April, 2012

This week at Joey Scout’s, Jacob learnt about ANZAC Day.  They had many wonderful learning activities, but Jacob’s favourite was making the poppy.  When he brought it home, he told me that the red poppy means remembering our soldiers. Not bad for a seven year olds interpretation.

How to make crepe paper poppies.
The poppy is a simple craft project to make.
You will need:
*red crepe paper
*green pipe cleaners
*Scissors

Draw and cut out 2 or more poppy shapes from crepe paper. Bundle 2 or more together and poke a hole through the centre of each shape. poke the pipe cleaner through the hole/s, then curl it around to secure and form the centre of the flower.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

After months of rehearsals, Zachary has performed in his school production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and, without any mummy bias at all, it was fantastic! I wasn’t able to get many photos during the performance, but here is a few that were displayed on the night.

The tooth fairy for Jacob!

Last week, we had another of Jacob’s firsts - he lost his first tooth!! That little tooth had been getting wiggled and tongue bashed for just over two weeks before it decided to pop out. And just how did it finally pop out???

Well, Jacob was playing in the pool with his brothers, jumping in with a noodle. The time he forgets to completely close his mouth, the force of the water must have been just enough to free the tooth (it was hanging by a thread). It was so funny, seeing him pop up out of the water, wiping his eyes and carefully grinning.  He popped his fingers in his mouth and pulled out the tooth and said “Woo hoo, the tooth fairy’s going to come!!”

I can assure you, there was absolutely no hassle in getting him organised for bed that night. PJ’s were on, teeth brushed, hugs and kisses given out all with a gappy smile. He got his orange cup of water and placed his tooth on his bedside table, near his lamp - so the tooth fairy could find her way.

When he woke up in the morning and found a shiny gold coin where his tooth once was, he was absolutely thrilled!

And to finish up, another pic of my newly gappy mouthed child - just because I think he’s terribly cute :)

Jacob and the Over-Sized Tennis Ball

Jacob has been practicing over and over to learn to bounce a ball under his leg after seeing it on television. Well, he’s done it - thanks to an over-sized tennis ball from Nana :)

Gooooooooooo Jacob!!!!

OMG! Do you see what my children do to me!!

Zachary was lucky enough to get a laptop for Christmas. He was showing me the cool stuff his webcam could do this afternoon - just after I woke up after working night shift! Must say, he didn’t lie - I clearly asked him not to take photos, which he didn’t. Hmmmmmm… so here it is, and it’s not pretty :)

Getting Mobility Back For Zac!

In August, Zachary dislocated his ring finger at school playing kickball. It’s been a hard few months for him in hand therapy trying to get mobility back. Unfortunately, his finger was “stuck” and he couldn’t get more than 50 degrees range of motion, so off to hospital he went.

Well, blow me down if it didn’t just take ten minutes with a local anaesthetic and the plastic surgeon to get in past where it was stuck!

Zachary got back to his room where he enjoyed a nice lunch and cup of tea before we needed to go back to the hand therapist for an aggressive session while the anaesthetic was still effective.

Swimming Fun Day

Jacob loves his swimming lessons - just as well since we have a pool in the back yard. He has only been going for two terms and the water confidence he has gained in that time has been amazing! He has gone from a little boy who didn’t even let you wash his hair without tears to this………

And this………
