10 Things About Summer - Listmania 2

For this weeks Listmania we have been asked what are our 5 favourite and 5 least favourite things about our current season.  At the moment it is summer in Australia.  Not my favourite season – I actually prefer any other season! I did manage to find 5 things I do like about summer.  They are:

1. Watching my boys swimming in the pool

2. Air conditioning

3. Summer fruits – yummo!!!!

4. Eating outside

5. Summer shoes

Five things I like least about summer are:

1. HEAT!!!!!

2. Bushfires

3. Spiders that decide to keep cool in my house – eeeeeewwwwwww

4. Cricket taking over my TV

5. Sunburn

I decided than none of my least favourite deserved a picture since they are things I don’t like :)

Rejigging the system

Well, haven't I been absent for a while. After two years of agency night shift, I finally got a job with regular nights. You would think that would make things easier, right. I've gone from wondering all day until 6pm to find out if I have a shift to knowing exactly when I'm working and somehow have been left with less time to get things done.

My routine that I have pretty much stuck to for years and years doesn't fit in with my new working schedule and since I'm such a stubborn person and really don't like change that much I persisted in trying to make it work and all that did was leave me exhausted. When I finally gave in and realised I needed to rejig it, I had gotten myself so behind in everything that something have to give for a while so I could catch up and unfortunately that was blogging.

It has taken time to get into a new system for me and even longer for my family to readjust to it. I guess they have been so used to me being here and able to do things at the last minute, that they just didn't get it for a while that I couldn't do that anymore. A lot of the things were simple little things, like leaving notices from school to the last minute and expecting I could just deal with it. Previously, I would have gone through the bag when they came home and dealt with it then. But now two days a week when they get home I'm sound asleep and for some weird cosmic reason, these are the days that notices appear.

It took a ridiculous amount of time just to get them to pop the notices on my desk when they got home or have my hubby get them. It took even longer to get my hubby to tell me what he had taken out of the bag! It's a pain in the arse to come home from night shift to find out that one of the kids had a free dress day and needed a gold coin or they have an excursion that they either need to be there early for or picked up late from.

So six months later and we finally have a good working system happening. It's strange that only small tweaks were needed but they made such a huge impact. They were simple things like changing the day I change the linen, adding some things to the weekend, which I had previously always kept relatively free and keeping a stash of gold coins!

Over the next few days, I'm going to post a "year in review" so my blog reflects our family's year, then in the new year I will be able to add my blog into my schedule. To get back into the swing of things, I think I will look into some memes as that has previously helped me keep on track. If you're running one on your blog, let me know in the comments and I will pop over and have a look and see if it will work for me.

I am…..

When I read Eden’s post earlier today and I’ve had words running around my head ever since – just who am I?? I thought about the many words I use to describe myself like mother, wife, nurse and wondered if I am these things because of who I am or do these make me who I am. Honestly, it all became a bit of “what came first, the chicken or the egg” analogy.  So, I delved a little deeper.

I know I have double sided qualities. While I could be described as nurturing, caring, loving, I’m also good in a crisis and can make decisions quickly, which can come across as cold and heartless.  After coming to this conclusion, I decided to make my brain stop hurting and stop thinking of who I am as something that needs to be wrapped in a compact package that makes sense and simply write who I think I am.

I am logical and I need things to make sense.

I like things to be organised – not necessarily all neat and tidy.

I’m a great listener.  I’m also usually the person that won’t burst into tears along with you when you need to let it all out.

I cry at the “Worksafe” ads every time without fail – even if I have changed the channel part way through the ad.

When I love, there’s no halfway. It’s an all or nothing experience.

I believe in spreading your wings and following your dreams.

I’m a vault when is coming to keeping a secret – as long as no one’s going to get hurt along the way.

I am inquisitive and always have the feeling that there is something else I need to learn.

I must use matching shampoo and conditioner.

I think it’s important that I let my children learn from their mistakes.

I am a tv addict.

I love the colour purple.

I am who I am right now.

I am me :)

My 5 Biggest Time Suckers (at the moment anyway)

Last week, I found myself whinging to myself, that I didn’t have time to do something. I’m ultra busy and run off my feet ALL DAY! Then, I realised that my sugar needed harvesting and my crafted glass would be ready in Castleville.  Hmmm, super busy? Time poor? Guess not – just have things that are more fun to do :)

So, I thought I would waste even more time and find out just what are my 5 biggest time suckers are. The results in no particular order are {drum roll please}

1. Bubble Witch on facebook
I love, love, love Bubble Witch. I hate that I have to wait 30 minutes before gives me another life. For the last few days, I have been dreaming that I will finally finish Level 155. It’s seriously been driving me nuts – I’m always just a ball or two short.

2. Draw Something on iPhone
I love this but honestly, I need to apologise after every attempt i have at drawing something. The pictures look awesome in my head – there’s just a bit of a problem translating that to my big fat fingers on a tiny iPhone screen. Below is an example of my wonderful work. You would have guessed that one right?

Drawsome

3. Words with Friends on iPhone and facebook
What’s better than a game you can play on your iPhone or on facebook?? One that you can play on both!!! Words with Friends is awesome! I love having a few games on the go and playing a few turns while I’m waiting for kids or having a cuppa. OK, I’ll play it whenever the little notification pops up on my phone that it’s my turn :)

4. Castleville on facebook
One day, I had to make the decision that I either kept playing Farmville or I embrace the new and pretty Castleville. Castleville won, sorry Farmville. I love the cute graphics and the tasks. I’ve become some weird being that plans their day around the harvesting of sugar, oats and tomatoes and the crafting of wood planks and exploration crystals.

5. Television
I seriously love television. probably a little more than I should. A while ago I did a meme with a question about what TV shows do I watch – I thought an essay would evolve! I even have the GetGlue app on my iPhone so I can check in to shows. OK you can check in to other things like movies, books and activities, but mine are mostly television. Down on my sidebar under “places you can find me” there’s a little GetGlue box where you can follow along with my addiction :)

So, there you have it. My five biggest time suckers at present.

And just because I will need something else to suck any of the time I have left, tell me what sucks your time?????

When the hairdressers away, and the grey can’t stay

I’ve been putting off doing my hair for a while now and of course, now I have this problem.

My hairdresser is here

Of course, we’re going out for dinner tonight for Christian’s birthday and I would prefer to look like his mother and not his nana - sorry mum :)

So, I had a quick trip to the shops and got this

At the moment, I am patiently waiting through the 30 minutes before washing to see if I am either a success or wearing a hat. While I’m waiting, I can tell you that the Schwarzkopf Perfect Mousse in Cassis Velvet Brown 4-19, was pretty darn easy to use – the bathroom does not look like a mass murder just occurred in there like it did after my last attempt using a different foam brand.

Anyhoo, timer has buzzed. Wish me luck :)

{insert elevator music here, since I’m going to have a shower and wash my bits and pieces while I’m in the bathroom}

Well, they results are in and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve only just quickly dried it since I’ll have to do the full works on myself in about 15 minutes, and decide what to wear, etc….

So, you decide. Did I do a good job??

In case you can’t be bothered scrolling for the difference

**Disclaimer – I was not asked to review this product and all opinions are my own. I just decided to give it a go since my grey was flourishing and it was on special :)
